The Virginia Board of Elections is warning citizens of a “vote by phone” scam.
In a release issued Friday, the board said they were aware of a scam in which some voters, especially older voters, are receiving calls informing them they can vote via telephone this November.
Virginia law does not allow over-the-phone voting.
Officials said they were not sure how widespread the scam is, but they have received several recent complaints.
The issue remains under investigation. Anyone who feels they may have been a target is asked to call 1-800-552-9745.
