RICHMOND, VA— Rodney J. Shelton, 18, has been identified as the victim killed in Wednesday night's double Shooting in Richmond.
It happened near 26th and Q Streets in Richmond shortly after 11:00 PM Wednesday.
When officers arrived, Shelton was pronounced dead at the scene.
A female victim in her late teens or early twenties was also shot, and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is in stable after undergoing surgery at VCU Medical Center.
Police said officers near the scene of the shooting, heard gunshots and responded to the scene.
“As they were driving by, they heard the shots fired and that's what prompted the quick response just a short distance away from where they were,” Dionne Waugh with the Richmond Police Department said.
Police have not said what sparked the shooting or who was involved, but did say officers have questioned people inside a car that may have been involved in the incident.
No suspect information has been released, but Richmond Police detectives are looking for a dark-colored, mid-size, four-door vehicle with tinted windows similar to a Dodge Intrepid that was seen leaving the area of last night's homicide.
Police are asking anyone with any information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
