RICHMOND—Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews worked overnight Friday and Saturday clearing downed trees and debris from roads impacted by Friday night's storm.
Currently, 250 roads are impacted statewide. The majority of the impacted roads are secondary routes and some primaries.
All interstates are clear, according to VDOT.
Due to widespread power outages, many traffic signals are out, particularly in Northern Virginia.
VDOT crews are coordinating with utility workers to remove downed trees from roads. In some cases, trees are entangled in power lines and utility crews need to remove the lines before the trees can be removed.
“Our crews will be working around the clock to clear the roads so power can be restored as quickly as possible,” said Commissioner Greg Whirley.
According to weather forecasts, the commonwealth can expect another round of severe storms this afternoon and evening.
