Chesterfield Woman Dies After Route 288 Crash

Release from State Police:

Chesterfield Co – One woman is dead following a motor vehicle crash that took place Monday evening, July 25, 2011. 

At 7:30 p.m., Virginia State Police Trooper U. C. Chon was called to the scene on Route 288 southbound, approximately one mile north of Route 360.   

A 2004 Jeep Liberty was traveling in the right lane when it struck a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander in the rear.  The driver of the Jeep lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road to the right.  The Jeep struck the guardrail and overturned several times. 

The driver, Jennifer K. Sikorsky, 29, who was not wearing her safety belt, was ejected from the vehicle.  Sikorsky suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Chippenham Medical Center where she later died.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Rafael E. Barragan, 47, along with two children, suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.  The children were an 8 year-old male and 6 year-old female.  All were wearing a safety belt or secured in a child safety seat. 

Speed is considered a factor in the crash.  Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.  The Virginia State Police Division One Accident Reconstruction Team assisted in the on-going investigation of the crash.
