NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – Virginia transportation officials have accepted a private group's proposal aimed at expanding the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel from two to four lanes in each direction.
The unsolicited proposal was submitted by Hampton Roads Crossing. The group includes Skanska Infrastructure Development, Skanska USA Civil, Kiewit Infrastructure Company, Weeks Marine and Parson Brinckeroff.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is accepting competing proposals for the next four months. After that, VDOT will review all proposals and make a recommendation to a panel appointed by VDOT's commissioner.
The proposed expansion would double the bridge-tunnel's size.
