I-295 Crash Leaves One Dead

Update: Police have identified the victim as 30-year-old Jeremy Michael Steen of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Police say that shortly before 4:30 Saturday afternoon, the driver of a  2005 Honda Element had parked on the shoulder of Interstate 295 to retrieve luggage that fell from his vehicle when he was struck by another vehicle.

A 2006 Mazda 6 ran off the road and struck the male driver, then struck the Honda, forcing a female passenger to be thrown from the Honda.

The driver of the mazda, 29-year-old Trudy Lynn Williams of Hopewell, suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to VCU Medical Center.

Williams has been charged with reckless driving.

The deceased male is a 30-year-old from Pennsylvania. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two other people were transported to VCU Medical Center. Police said that weather did not play a role in the crash. The cause is still under investigation.
