UNDATED (AP) – The New Orleans Hornets were based in Charlotte the last time the franchise won a playoff series. The Hornets have ended that postseason drought by taking Game 5 of the NBA's Western Conference quarterfinal series, beating Dallas 99-94.
Chris Paul recorded a triple-double in the clincher, finishing with 24 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds. David West finished with 25 points and Jannero Pargo added 17 while Tyson Chandler delivered 10 and 14 rebounds.
Devean George scored all 11 of his points while the Mavs were cutting a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to 97-94 with 33 seconds left. But Dallas never led and was eliminated in the first round for the second straight year.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 22 points but shot just 8-for-21.
