Presidential Race Heats Up In Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns are turning their attention to Virginia, disclosing new and revised rosters of backers less than two weeks before the state's primaries.

In separate Capitol Square events Thursday, the campaigns of Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain introduced state leadership teams with notable additions.

Jerry Kilgore, the former state attorney general and unsuccessful Republican candidate for governor in 2005, shifted his support to McCain. He had been state chairman for Rudy Giuliani, who dropped out of the race on Wednesday.

Among those now supporting Obama will be House Democratic Leader Ward Armstrong. Armstrong had backed former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, who also suspended his campaign Wednesday.

Virginia's primaries are Feb. 12.
