Amy Lacey is the award-winning co-anchor of 8News at 5 & 8News at 5:30.

Most recently, Amy has been recognized as by the Associated Press as 2014 Best News Anchor of the Year, Virginia & West Virginia. She has also been recognized by the Virginia Associated Press as Best News Anchor in the Commonwealth for both 2011 and 2013. 

For her work to raise awareness about children in the foster system in Virginia, Amy received the UMFS Child Advocate Guardian Award in March 2014.

Amy grew up outside of Pittsburgh in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Duquesne University with degrees in Journalism and Psychology, and she completed a Journalism program at American University. While in college, Amy reported and anchored local news for WDUQ-FM, a National Public Radio affiliate. She also won various Communication awards.

Before joining 8News in April 2004, Amy was a Bureau Chief and Fill-in Anchor for WCTI-TV in New Bern, NC. She also worked as a Reporter and Fill-in Anchor at KOAM-TV in Joplin, MO and as an Associate Producer at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh. Amy loves working in television news because she learns so much about different issues and has a chance to reach thousands of people every day. She also says you can’t beat the adrenaline rush of covering severe weather or breaking news!

Amy is a frequent guest speaker and emcee in the Richmond area and is passionate about helping local nonprofits. In her free time, Amy enjoys shopping, cooking and traveling. She always has a bag packed and her passport ready for trips with her husband! Amy has a soft spot in her heart for animals, especially her cat Gizmo who she adopted while doing a story at a North Carolina animal shelter after Hurricane Isabel. For her animal advocacy, Amy received a 2013 Dedication Award from the Southside SPCA for helping to give homeless animals a voice in the community.
